Chinese Social Structures
The Social Hierarchy of China was based on respect not wealth.
1. Nobility – had the highest rank, friends of those created loyalty, control over regions and people, aristocracy (born into position), smallest group.
2. Peasants – larges group; farmed the land for the nobility, responsible for producing enough food for everyone to eat, highly respected.
3. Artisans – people who make tools, utensils, and art important for their skills in making goods, not as valuable as peasants.
4. Merchants – people who traded goods; lowest rank because they didn’t make anything made money be selling goods that others made.
