Be able to communicate effectively through reading, writing and speaking.

Become better equipped readers by learning before, during and after reading strategies.

Acquire writing skills to better enhance their ability to write which can be applied to all content areas.

Understand the writing process and the different stages of writing.

Expand and improve vocabulary by writing daily in their journal and through the use of a word log.

Become avid readers, learn about various authors and be able to differentiate genres of literature.
