Reading is Fundamental - Writing is Fantastic
The homework policy in my classroom will be to respond to literature in their reader's notebook, write in their writer's workbook, study vocabulary, study for quizzes, tests or complete work that was started in class. For their Independent Reading (I.R.), they are to read every Monday and Wednesday for 20 minutes, keep a log and also respond to one of their reading response questions. Their response should be written in their Reader's Workbook. I will also give homework during the week according to the specific work that we are doing in class. All homework has to be handed in the next day.
Homework assignments will be given Monday through Thursdays and will include writing, reading, worksheets, vocabulary, reports, studying for quizzes/tests. Students should have an Independent Reading novel with them at all times. There are two Independent Reading novels that need to be read each marking period.
Unit 4- Feature Article - This unit will cover writing a feature article and reading the novel, The Giver. For their feature article, they will be bringing in samples from home and using them as samples to start writing their own article. The Giver will also be read during this unit. We will discuss theme and also do a society project. The project will be a group endeavor and will be presented to the entire class. Their projects will be based on 8 different topics and they will also be doing a brochure to promote their society.
