The focus of East PTA is to provide parent and student
programs, the Cougar Line newsletter, and scholarships.
Our only fundraiser for these expenses is the Non-event fundraiser.

Our next East PTA Meeting for the 2008 -2009 year will be held on December 10 at 7:30 in the East Library - Speakers: Jen Destephano, Student Assistance Coordinator, and Mike Nuzzo, Director of Security, will speak about the the implementation of passive alcohol sensors (PAS) at select upcoming school events. (They will be used at the Freshman Dance, Sophomore Cotillion, and the Junior and Senior Proms as well as at other events as mentioned in a letter recently sent home from Dr. Campbell.)
If you can't attend the PTA meeting at East you are welcome to visit the West PTA meeting where PAS will also be discussed. This will occur Nov. 12 at 7pm in the West Library.
Excerpt from Dr. Campbell's letter, "While we are providing the dates of PAS use during this initial year of implementation, screening in future years will be conducted at random at extracurricular school-sponsored events such as dances, proms, and class trips."

From Cherry Hill Public School: Last spring, the Board of Education authorized the use of passive alcohol sensors at school-sponsored events. These devices can deter bad decisions by the small minority of students who might consider drinking before a dance or other school event. Our high school principals are providing information to students at class meetings. Clarification: At dances and proms, every student who attends will be screened. At the DECA Regionals, senior trip, and field trips, the PASs will be available for screening students who exhibit signs of alcohol use.
