Welcome to Beck Track
You are welcomed as a member of the Beck Track & Field team. If you can put some time and effort into the activity and follow a few guidelines, then you made the team.
Unlike Basketball and Baseball/Softball there are no try-outs. The coaches do not have to judge your skills. You get immediate feedback from the clock and the measuring tape. You also get to decide what events you would like to enter.
The coaches are here to help you learn the different events, improve your technique and give encouragement.
With dedication and some sweat, you will have a lot of individual success. The individual success will also assist the overall track and field program!
Welcome,
Your Coaches
Time & Effort are Keys to Success
Success is not measured by where we are now. Success is measured by comparing where we are now to where we are over a period of time.
Putting forth effort is one of the keys to success. You must be willing to put forth 100% effort at practice to move toward success. You must put forth effort outside of practice to further condition yourself and move toward success.
GOALS
Each of you should prepare at least one goal you want to attain by the end of the season. Take the first two weeks to learn about yourself and the track events you will participate in. Then make goal(s) that you believe you can attain by the end of the season. You should be able to verbalize this goal to any coach that asks. Keep track of where you are at the start of the season and compare to where you are at the end of the season.
Don’t get discouraged if you see your progress not moving as quickly as the others even though you are giving 100%. Remember to compare your success to where you started and where you are over a period of time. Seek advice from your coaches. You may have set unrealistic goals. You are still growing and developing at varying rates compared to each other. You will have to let nature take its course. Be patient. Don’t get discouraged.
Team Guidelines
The following set of guidelines are based on the Cherry Hill Board of Education Athletic Philosophy where emphasis is placed on the building of responsibility and loyalty to the school, program, team and coaches. It is a privilege to belong to such an organization, but along with this privilege go certain responsibilities and you must abide by:
· Every choice we make is with the good of the team in mind.
· You are eligible if you turned 15 years of age before September 1st of this school year.
· You will be held responsible for any actions that may be viewed by your coaches as negative towards the school, program, team and coaches.
· You must accept the sole responsibility of uniform or equipment that has been assigned to you.
· You must remain with the team designated areas for practice and meets.
· You must report all injuries to a coach.
· You must be willing to assist and help during track meets.
· You must stay until each track meet is over – if you have to leave early you must bring a note from your parent explaining your early departure and a coach must see the parent leaving with you.
· You are expected to give 100% at all practices.
· You will show sportsmanship by accepting a judge’s decision as final.
· You will be expected to complete 2 laps before practice without stopping!
· Coaches always reserve the right to make certain exceptions due to unforeseen circumstances in order to help the team or an individual.
· Three strikes and you’re out! You may have only two (2) un-excused absences from practice.
· Only those athletes who qualified for the championship meet will be going to the last two (2) meets.
· You could be dismissed from the team for breaking any of the above rules.
