P.E. Policy
Unprepared/Medical Excuse
Just as students need a their books and notebooks for most of their classes, students also need to dress appropriately for Physical Education class. While every attempt will be made to encourage students to prepare for Physical Education class, the following steps will be taken when students are unprepared. This process clears to start anew each marking period.
Each time a student is unprepared for class, the student is required to participate as best he/she can with alternative learning experience. This can come in the form of a written assignment or some participatory function such as score-keeping, refereeing, or other responsibility.
Ø First time: Letter home
Ø Second time: Phone call home, make-up physical activity (55 min.) after school with a PE teacher or at home. Complete the written form with a student reflection. Include signature of student and parent. (teachers discretion)
Ø Third time: Phone call home, make-up physical activity (55 min.) after school with a PE teacher. Complete the written form with a student reflection. Include signature of student and parent. (teachers discretion)
Ø Fourth time: A student/parent/teacher conference will be required.
Ø A parent/guardian note will be accepted to excuse a student from P.E. class (short term only).
Medical excuse: A doctor's note is required for medical excuses longer than two weeks. An alternative assignment will be given.
Initiative Effort: Any student can make up points by participating after school in a physical activity, which will be monitored by a Physical Education teacher. Teachers will provide these opportunities regularly.
It is our responsibility to provide instruction. It is your responsibility to work to the best of your ability. You will have many opportunities for self-assessment as well as several teachers' assessment of your progress during the year.
