Name:
Reproductive system- the organs that make possible the production of
offspring. Reproduction is the process by which life is continued from one
generation to the next. A new human life results from the union of two
specialized cells, one from a now and the other from a female.
Sperm- male’s reproductive cells. Males begin to produce sperm when they
reach puberty, usually between ages of 12 and 15.
The male reproductive system includes:
- Organs involved in the production and storage of sperm and the release of
sperm outside of the body.
- Seminal vessels- produces seminal fluid.
- Prostate gland- produces seminal fluid.
- Cowper’s gland- produces seminal fluid.
- Urethra- is the tube that carries urine and sperm to the outside of the
body.
- Penis- is the external sexual organ.
- Testes- or testicles, are two small glands that produce sperm and
hormones.
- Scrotum- it is a muscular sack that contains the testes.
- Vas deferens- art to instead extend from each epididymis to the urethra.
- Epididymis- is located behind each testicle. A network of tubes in which
the sperm mature and are stored temporarily.
Some problems of the male reproductive system:
- Inaugural hernia- and allows part of the intestine to push into the
scrotum. It may follow heavy lifting.
- Sterility- is the ability to produce enough healthy sperm to reproduce. It
may follow illness or exposure to drugs.
- Enlarged prostate gland- is a common problem associated with aging.
- Sexually transmitted infections- are infection assess bed during sexual
contact.
- Cancer- is uncontrolled cell growth that destroys healthy tissue. Cancer
can affect the testicles, by state, or less often, other male reproductive
organs.
Care of the male reproductive system:
- Males should have regular checkups by a physician.
- Practice self examination- of the scrotum and testicles once a month,
checking for unusual lumps or swelling. Any change should be evaluated by a
physician.
- Bathe regularly- to ensure cleanliness.
- Avoid wearing tight underwear- and where a protective cup or supporter
adoring athletic activities.
- Practice abstinence- from sexual activity before marriage.
The female reproductive system includes:
- It produces a female sex hormone
- It produces and stores and egg cells
- It provides a place for fertilization to occur
- It nourishes and protect the fertilized egg as it grows and matures into a
new human being
- Ovaries were - contain ova, or eggs, and produce hormones.
- Fallopian tubes- carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.
- Uterus- shelters and nourishes the fetus.
- Endometrium- is the lining of the uterus.
- Cervix- is the
opening of the uterus.
- Vagina- is the
muscular passageway
the uterus to the
outside of the
body.
Ovulation- is the
release of one
mature egg cell
each month,
began.
Menstruation- the flow of the uterine
lining out the body.
Mental cycle- is
the sequence of
events in the
reproductive system that
occurs from one
menstruation to another.
An average menstrual
cycle:
Fertilization- is
the joining of
male and female
reproductive cells to
make the first
cell of a
new human.
This cell,
a fertilized egg,
then moves down
the fallopian tube into
the uterus.
The fertilized egg
attaches to the
wall of the
uterus and begins
to grow.
In the early
stages, it
is called an
embryo. After
eight weeks of
development, it
becomes a fetus.
The uterus has
layers of tissue and
a rich blood
supply to nourish
the developing fetus.
The mother's body
supplies the fetus
with food and
oxygen. After
about 40 weeks,
the fetus is
mature and ready
to be born.
The walls of the
uterus begin to
contract. The
contractions open the cervix
and push the
baby out of
the uterus and
through the cervix.
The baby passes
through the vagina
and out of
the female's body.
