MALE REPRO SYSTEM
1. SPERM: Name given to the male sex cell. Also known as the spermatozoa.
2. TESTES: This is the name of the male reproductive glands.
3. EPIDIDYMIS: Tubes found on top of the testes used to store sperm that has
been produced.
4. VAS DEFERENS: Tubes leading from the testes to the outside. It is also
passageway for the sperm and liquid waste from the body.
5. SCROTUM: Sack of skin that holds the two (2) male reproductive glands (the
testes).
6. SEMEN: Name given to the sperm and its fluids.
7. SEMINAL VESICLES: These are small sacks found on the vas deferens that gives
fluid to the sperm for mobility.
8. PROSTATE: This is also a gland that gives a fluid to the sperm for mobility.
9. PENIS: This is the male reproductive gland (not organ) . It is found outside
of the body.
10. COWPERS GLAND: Two (2) pea-shaped glands that open into the urethra.
11. URETHRA: This is the passageway leading from the bladder to the outside. It
is the passageway for sperm and the bodies liquid waste.
12. NOCTURNAL EMISSION: Also known as a wet dream. Release of semen from the
body usual during sleep.
13. ERECTION: This is when the penis becomes filled with blood. This usually
happens before sexual intercourse.
14. EJACULATION: This is voluntary release of semen from the body usually during
intercourse.
15. VASECTOMY: This is when the male has his Vas Deferens cut or tied. This will
render the person sterile.
16. FERTILIZATION: This is when the male sperm joins the female ova to form a
new cell.
17. CIRCUMCISION: This term refers to the removal of the foreskin on the end of
the penis.
18. ANDROGENS: This is the name given to the main male hormone (or Group of
hormones).
19. TESTOSTERONE: This is the male hormone for masculinity. It is responsible
for the male secondary sex characteristics, and the male
sex cell the spermatozoa (sperm).
FEMALE REPRO SYSTEM
1. Puberty: The time of sexual development when a person becomes able to
reproduce a child.
2. Hormones: Fluids produced by the endocrine glands that cause the body to
change (secondary sex
characteristics)
3. Ovulation: The release of the mature ovum from the ovaries. Happens once
every 28-30 days (part of the
menstrual cycle)
4. Menstruation: The release of blood and tissue from the uterus. It is no
longer needed.
5. Menarche: The first menstrual cycle.
6. Menopause: The female cycle ceases to occur. This is usually around 40-45
years of age.
7. Ovary: Female Reproductive Gland.
8. Fallopian Tubes: Tubes that direct the egg from the ovary to the uterus.
Fertilization will always take place here.
9. Uterus: Muscular organ that receives the fertilized egg and will house it for
the nine months of development..
10. Vagina: Muscular organ that connects the uterus to the outside world. It is
also known as the birth canal.
11. Hymen: Thin membrane that covers the opening of the vagina.
12. Womb: Another name for the uterus.
13. Labia: Folds of skin that covers the opening of the vagina.
14. Corpus Luteum: Name given to the ruptured follicle after the egg has been
released.
15. Ectopic Pregnancy: The fertilized egg is held and develops in the fallopian
tubes. Potentially life threatening.
Could be caused by PID.
16. Tubal Ligation: Female sterilization. The tubes are cut or tied. This would
cause the women to be unable to
bear a child.
17. Pituitary Gland (master gland): This gland is responsible of controlling all
the other endocrine glands.
18. Progesterone: Female hormone responsible for development of the ova (female
sex cell) and its release from the
ovary.
19. Estrogen: Female hormone responsible for preventing the egg's development
and it's release from the ovary.
Also responsible fro the menstrual flow.
20. Follicle: The case of tissue surrounding the egg cell before it is released
from the ovary.
21. Ova or Ovum: This it the female sex cell.
22. Endometrium: This is the lining of the uterus. It is shed during the
menstrual flow.
23. Cervix: The opening of the uterus to the vagina. Also known as the neck of
the uterus.
