2006 Carusi 8th Grade Baseball Results

May 17: The Carusi 8th grade baseball season ended as the Mustangs fell to top-seeded and undefeated Harrington by an 8-1 score in the first round of the SJMSBL playoffs.. Adam Campbell’s RBI single in the first inning plated Mike Cordisco with the Mustangs lone run. Chris Norris pitched the first three innings of the game and got a single. Sam Slutsky made a great catch in centerfield and pitched the final three innings. John Torres had another solid defensive day behind the plate and Andrew Rinaldi was in the middle of 2 double plays defensively. Wil Lichtenberg made a fine catch in right field. Others playing their final game for the Mustangs were Doug Gilman, Sean Brining, Wil Bayne, Steve Ferraro, Anthony Stewart, Evan Eichhorn. Final Record: 6-6
May 9: Despite a 2-1 lead in the 7th, the Carusi 8th grade baseball team fell to Medford by a 4-2 score. Sam Slutsky pitched 6 awesome innings yielding only one unearned run and smacking a double. With the Mustangs trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 6th, John Torres scored the game-tying run on Adam Campbell’s RBI groundout. The Mustangs took the lead when Chris Norris doubled, moved to third on Steve Ferraro’s single and stole home. Campbell also had a double and Anthony Stewart had a single. Good defensive plays came from Norris, Slutsky, Campbell, and Doug Gilman. Record: 6-5.
May 4: Despite a 5-1 lead in the 5th and a 6-5 lead in the 6th, the Carusi 8th grade baseball team fell to unbeaten Harrington by a 13-6 score. Sam Slutsky pitched 5 solid innings and scored 2 runs. John Torres had a double and a home run. Adam Campbell whacked a 2-run double. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs were Chris Norris, Steve Ferraro, Mike Cordsico, Wil Lichtenberger, and Evan Eichhorn. Good defense plays came from Sean Brining, Cordisco, Rinaldi, and Eichhorn. Record: 6-4
May 2: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team blanked Rosa 10-0. Evan Eichhorn pitched a complete game shutout while yielding only 3 hits, striking out 7 and also going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. John Torres also went 3 for 3 and knocked in 2 runs. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs were Doug Gilman, Sam Slutsky, Chris Norris, Steve Ferraro, Mike Cordsico, Andrew Rinaldi, Anthony Stewart, Sean Brining, Wil Lichtenberger, and Adam Campbell. Good defense plays came from Brining, Cordisco, Rinaldi, and Lichtenberger. Record: 6-3.
April 27: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team fell to undefeated Marlton by a 14-10 score. Sam Slutsky pitched 5 gutsy innings in relief of Chris Norris and Steve Ferraro. Slutsky and John Torres each had 3 hits and multiple RBI’s. Adam Campbell went 2 for 4 with a 3-run double. Mike Cordisco had two hits and was on base in all four of his at bats. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs were Doug Gilman, Anthony Stewart, Sean Brining, Wil Lichtenberger, and Trevor Sharpe. Record: 5-3.
April 25: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team fell to Voorhees by an 11-8 score. Adam Campbell went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Four Mustangs had two hits each including Mike Cordisco, John Torres, Steve Ferraro, and Chris Norris. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs were Brian Schneidemann, Wil Lichtenberger, Sam Slutsky and Trevor Sharpe. Drew Rinaldi made a great catch to save a run. Record: 5-2.
April 21: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team beat previously unbeaten Moorestown by a 10-1 score Friday. Sam Slutsky pitched 6 dazzling innings while yielding only 1 run and he went 2 for 4 at the plate. Evan Eichhorn pitched a scoreless 7th inning to seal the victory. Mike Cordisco went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Trevor Sharpe had 2 hits and Adam Campbell went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs for were Brian Schneidemann, John Torres, Drew Rinaldi, Anthony Stewart, Wil Lichtenberger, Sean Brinning. The win allowed Carusi to forge a three way tie for the North Division lead with a 5-1 record.
April 20: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team pounded Pennsauken by a 16-4 score. Adam Campbell pitched 3 scoreless innings for the win and went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s. Relief pitching was provided by Anthony Stewart who also had a hit and a run scored and Evan Eichhorn who went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Other Mustangs getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs for were Mike Cordisco, Brian Schneidemann, John Torres, Drew Rinaldi, Steve Ferraro, Wil Lichtenberger, Sean Brinning and Wil Bayne. Team record 4-1.
April 18: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team beat Beck 7-5 in a thriller on the East side. The game was tied 1-1 after 4 innings and 5-5 after 6 innings before John Torres 2-run home run in the last inning powered Carusi to its third win of the season. Chris Norris got the win on the mound in relief of Steve Ferraro who yielded only 1 run over three innings. Sam Slutsky pitched the 7th inning for the save and also had a double. Adam Campbell and Brian Schneidemann each had two hits. Others getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs for Carusi were Mike Cordisco and Wil Bayne. Team record 3-1.
April 7: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team downed DeMasi by a 17-7. Chris Norris got the win on the mound with relief help from Steve Ferraro. The outstanding Mustang offense was lead by John Torres who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and Adam Campbell who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Anthony Stewart started a key double play, had 3 RBI’s including the game-winner on a squeeze bunt. Others getting hits, RBI’s or scoring runs from Carusi were Norris, Sam Slutsky, Mike Cordisco, Wil Bayne, Wil Lichtenberger, Evan Eichhorn and Doug Gilman. Team record 2-1.
April 6: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team fell to division leading Cinnaminson by a 14-3 score. Sam Slutsky, Steve Ferraro, and Evan Eichhorn shared the pitching duties. Offensive stars for the Mustangs were Andrew Rinaldi who had 2 hits and Chris Norris who socked a 2-run triple in the 5th inning. Others getting hits or scoring runs from Carusi were Sam Slutsky, John Torres, Mike Cordisco, Anthony Stewart, and Doug Gilman. Team record 1-1.
April 4: The Carusi 8th grade baseball team opened the 2006 season with a 13-7 win at Berlin. Evan Eichhorn and Andrew Rinaldi shared the pitching duties. Offensive stars for the Mustangs were Jon Torres and Adam Campbell who each went 3 for 4. Chris Norris went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Others getting hits or scoring runs from Carusi were Sam Slutsky, Mike Cordisco, Anthony Stewart, Brian Schneideman, and Doug Gilman. Sean Brinning made a great catch in right field to highlight the Mustang defense. Team record 1-0.
