Flag Football Study Guide
 


Positions:
Offense:
- OC: Center- hikes ball to QB, blocks for QB on offense

- OG: Guard- R/L- next to center, blocks on offense

- OT: Tackle- R/L- next to guard, blocks on offense

- OE: End- R/L (receivers = split or tight), run pass patterns, catch forward passes, block for halfback

- QB: Quarterback- leads huddle, calls play, yells hike, receives hike, throws forward pass to receiver or handoff to halfback, keeps ball and runs

- HB: Halfback- receives handoff, receives pass, blocks for other halfback, may make forward pass from behind line of scrimmage.

Defense
- DB: Defensive back- defends halfback or guards against pass plays

- DE: Defensive end- guard/defend against running plays

- DC: Center- rushes QB on defense

- DG: Guard- R/L- next to center rushes on defense

- DT: Tackle- R/L- next to guard, rushes on defense

Rules:
Offense
- Only 1 running play per 4 downs

- Only 7 players on the field at a time

- Only 4 downs on each side of midfield line

- Center must stay in at all times (must be different center each time)

- Ball must be centered from ground.

- You may have 2 people in backfield (QB and ?)

- Blocking must be done above the waist, with arms held close to the body. NO  HOLDING! You can’t leave feet to block.

- Runners can not use a straight arm, stiff arm or attempt to block someone from grabbing your flag.

- NO FUMBLES! The ball is dead when it touches the ground.

- Team members must stay behind the line on punts/kick-offs, until the ball has been kicked. You must tell the defense that you are kicking.

Defense:
- Pass interference- you can not touch the receiver or pull their flag off until the ball has been caught. (Automatic first down)

- Only 7 players on the field at a time

- Unlimited number of people rushing the quarterback, but must count to 3 before rushing.

- 1 blitz (rush without counting) per 4 downs.

- No holding the runner in order to grab flag.

- Only 2 people back to receive a punt. Everyone else must be on the line or in a zone defense.

- NO ROUGHING! Unnecessary roughness, pushing the runner out of bounds, etc., is not permitted. If this occurs, the player in question may be removed from the game.
