President's
Message
Welcome
to the Cherry Hill Special Education PTA website.
Since the current SEPTA board was elected earlier this year, we have been
at work laying the foundation for an effective, responsive, and
inter-active organization. At the center of our efforts has been the
development of this website. Through it, we wish to both communicate to
you and receive from you your valuable input. It is our goal also, to
augment the website with periodic emails to the membership, to keep you
informed of issues of importance to our community. We believe our
principal mission is to be a vehicle for the exchange of information, so
that you have more of what you need to effectively advocate for your
child. Beyond that, we seek to build a community of common interest, where
people befriend one another, support one another, and network with one
another. We warmly welcome and encourage all of our teachers,
administrators, educational assistants and other support personnel to
join with us and take part in what we are hoping to achieve. We
know that their contributions are so important to the success of our
children and we look forward to working with them.
Were
we a football team, this would be a “rebuilding year.” For two years,
we have operated at a financial loss. We are in large need of committed
volunteers who can serve as school liaisons, reporters who attend
important meetings, fundraisers, and “worker bees” who do what needs
to be done. Your executive board is only five people. However
committed we are, we cannot alone see our mission to completion. We need
you – and we need you now. And for you Dads, we have “Dad’s Den”,
a place for you where you can socialize, network, and participate in
Dad-centered outings. We’re determined to prove that our PTA is not just
a “girls club.”
Please know that each member of the SEPTA board is a parent of a special
needs child, ranging from pre-school to high school. We understand what
you go through and what it takes to raise and advocate for a special needs
child. We “get” you. Your issues are our issues. We, like you, remain
committed to looking out for the most vulnerable and voiceless in our
community. Most of us are pretty new at this, and we’ll likely make a
few mistakes along the way. I hope you’ll extend yourself and your
patience to us; that you’ll meet us, get involved, volunteer, fundraise,
advocate, and joyfully celebrate one another’s successes. It is a
poignant and memorable paradox that we are all most accountable to those
who are least able to tell us that we are.
May
we all be well and happy and rewarded in our efforts this school year.
