Woodcrest School’s Character Education Committee Goals

2006 - 2007

1. Woodcrest School, families and the surrounding community will come together for a celebration of the First Day of the school year to support education and begin a year long partnership to promote success. The Character Education Committee will also plan follow-up events throughout the year that will continue to promote family and community involvement.

2. Engage in school-wide activity and lesson planning that would uphold common traits of good character such as respect, responsibility, honesty, patriotism, citizenship, cooperation, kindness and thankfulness.  Foster school spirit and sense of community through school wide assemblies that will highlight these words of character.

3. Serve as an "umbrella" under which other programs, either existent or developing, could find solace and stability. Programs to fall under the Character Education Committee "umbrella" would include, but are not limited to, Student Council and Safety Ambassadors. Create a sub-committee that will investigate new grants and begin to consider applications for Best Practices.

4. Celebrate diversity within our school and our world. Consider the ways in which we can make a difference in our community and world.

5. Devote services and time to Woodcrest School’s anti-bullying campaign. In doing this, the Character Education Committee will serve as a source to make public information about the campaign to the students, parents, and community members. The committee will commit to discussions and identifications of "new" forms of bullying that arise in the school community. Furthermore, searching for/evaluating resources and strategies that might help Woodcrest’s anti-bullying campaign will be a major focus of the committee’s commitment to this important cause.
